Documentary -- 24 Hours Alone in the Woods

Hello caretakers!  I'm writing to let you know about a documentary I'm finishing about a rite of passage ceremony that took place very near Paul's house two years ago.  It was for seven adolescent boys and it asked them to tend a fire by themselves for 24 hours.  This was a threshold moment for the boys, for their families and for the larger community around them.  Please…

Preparing for Dance

Taking a moment from an almost incessant diet  of Lakota Sundance songs to take in a few incarnations of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" - it's likely one of the most emotional pieces of popular music ever written, and with some of the most sincere covers. One artists commented that whenever she sings it, the audiece always gets really quiet, even the rowdy ones.

It's on my list to learn. Curiously enough, it's in 3/4 time, and it occurred to me that it would be just fine on a…

Tracking

My thin leather boots crunched in the snow, sometimes breaking through an ice crust to a depth of only a few inches, other times falling in about a foot of powder where it had drifted. My toes were no longer cold, warmed by the heat of physical exertion, and I was thankful for my new gaitors. I…

As yet, when all is thought and said,

The heart still overrules the head;

Still what we hope we must believe,

And what is goven us receive;

Must still believe, for still we hope

a response to that appeal sometime very soon. It has occurred to
